Destiny

I'm Destiny, my parents bought the bakery 33 years ago. This place is a way of life for me. It's like it's in my blood. Growing up we lived in an "apartment" upstairs so we were always around it. My parents originally bought it as a real estate investment. Neither of them were bakers or even had a desire to be. The building was amazing and they knew they could fix it up and make it something really special. But over the years the tourist business in Fredericksburg really took off. My parents made lots of great changes in the building and bakery and it became a very successful business. Suddenly it was this all consuming provider. As a child it enabled me to not want for much except maybe parents who didn't work quite so hard. The bakery is pretty much 24/7 and not very glamorous. Itis extremely hard work and consumes your life. Luckily we lived upstairs and never far from our parents. I have 2 older brothers Dac and Derrek. Growing up above a bakery was always an adventure. Every kid in school wanted to hang out at our house. If not for us for the all you can eat sweets, icecream, and jumbo sized Dr.Peppers. And ofcourse very little adult supervision because mom and dad were working. Anyone who visited the bakery when we were teenagers were sure to hear pool balls hitting the floorstampedes of loud teens running or wrestling coming from the bakeries ceiling. We had a great childhood and the bakery was a part of every bit of it. As an adult for me that has not changed. I worked off and on at the bakery from the time I was 18. When I was first married and starting a family my parents offered for me to come in full time and open a gift shop in the bakery. After major remodeling my mom and I opened the cutest kitchen gift shop. We had so much fun doing it together. While raising 3 boys at work with us full time. I felt blessed to have a job I loved and could keep my kids with me. Although extremely challenging it was succesful and rewarding. After about 8-9 years of this I was getting a little burned out. The bakery was in need of some changes and fresh ideas. Luckily I had 2 sister-in-laws that were already helping out part-time. I decided to have a family meeting inviting them in to help me run the business. With hopes of my parents taking some well deserved time off. So in 2009 "The Girls" took over. Country blue was out and turqoise coated the walls. We added a lunch menu, took over employees, and hit the ground running. It has been a very challenging and succesful year and a half. We laugh and cry on a regular basis. There is not an aspect of our lives that the bakery doesn't touch. It is filled with many ups and downs. Wich is what this blog is all about. To help us keep our sanity and for you to enjoy our crazy life the bakery gives us.
